SUMMARY:Clothed in Strength & Autism Society of Mahoning Valley Autism Single Mom Pop-Up Boutique
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to partner with Clothed in Strength for an Autism Single Mom Pop-Up Boutique Event. Join us on Monday\, October 21st from 10am-Noon at 301 S. Main Street\, Poland\, OH. Items will be donated to moms.  \nIf you have childcare\, please enjoy this time to shop by yourself.  They do have a small playroom and we hope but can’t guarantee to have 1-2 support staff to provide light childcare at this time.  If you are a teacher\, aide\, nurse\, social worker\, or related and can volunteer please email our Director\, Robin at robin@autismmv.org.  \n\nClothed in Strength provides women’s and children’s clothing\, shoes\, household goods\, diapers\, and other needs.  Their mission is the bridge the gap between financial freedom and government assistance for low to moderate-income single mothers.  \n\n\nWe will provide information on our programs and will have a flyer with local resources to support autism families. Our mission is to create connections\, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully.  We understand when basic needs are not being met it can be difficult to focus on autism needs.  We hope this event and connecting families with another great local resource will help them.  If you have any of the above as donations please contact Clothed in Strength for their drop off instructions. Items should be new or in gently used condition.   \nA couple of housekeeping items from Clothed in Strength:\nThey require photo ID and verification of household. This could be custody papers or tax return with dependents shown. They serve single mothers currently raising dependent children. They also extend their services to grandmothers who have custody of their grandchildren. Parking is limited. If you don’t have mobility concerns and are safe to walk across the street if have children with you\, please park at the Poland Library or Town Hall across the street.  The Autism Society will provide reusable bags for this event.\n\n\n\n \n \n Clothed in Strength Shopping Event - October 2024\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Parent First Name*Parent Last Name*Email*\n \n Phone*Address*City*State*Zip*Name of Individual with Autism*Date of Birth (MM/DD/YY)*Name of Individual with AutismDate of Birth (MM/DD/YY)Name of Individual with AutismDate of Birth (MM/DD/YY)Name of Individual with AutismDate of Birth (MM/DD/YY)Number of People in your Family Attending? SUMMARY:Holiday Mini Grants 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our 11th annual Holiday Mini-Grant Program is once again funded by the generous Mike Hull Memorial Fund. Grant winners will be decided by the Mike Hull Memorial Fund and families will be granted at a private Holiday Party (usually a Sunday evening in early to mid-December). Grant recipients and their families are required to attend. Grant applications will be taken September 28-October 27\, 2024. \nFamilies must be located in Mahoning\, Trumbull or Columbiana counties since these are the counties the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley serves. A child\, teen or adult must have an autism spectrum diagnosis. Please do not apply if you have been given a holiday mini-grant in past years from our organization to allow other families an opportunity.  Please only apply if you are not able to afford items or if it will be a financial hardship to do so. \nItems can include — Devices for communication needs (tablet requests will be considered\, but they will not be iPads due to cost)\, recreational or fitness items\, items to help students with educational needs\, items to help with social or emotional needs of individuals\, and more. Although we do not ask for the family’s income\, please only apply if buying these items would cause a strain on the family to purchase.\nNo cash\, gift card or payment donations will be given. Please only request an item(s) that can be purchased at a local store or online store.\nIf you have any questions or need some help on identifying possible grant requests contact our Director\, Robin for assistance by email at robin@autismmv.org.  She has been coordinating this program for many years and understands the requests and specific needs that the funders have so they can shop for grant needs. \nPlease Note: If your child is under 18 years of age and not receiving FSS funds from your county or if your child is over 18 and not receiving waiver services\, please contact Robin at robin@autismmv.org to start discussions and she will connect you to your Board of DD for assistance. These FSS funds when available can be used for swim lessons\, gym memberships\, Camp FRIEND\, respite\, therapy not covered by insurance and more. Case management services are also available for families to explore needs and resources. \n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.

Our mission is to create lasting friendships within and beyond our group. To achieve this important goal\, we are searching for individuals who can participate regularly. Please only register if you plan on attending consistently in order to promote meaningful relationships.\nSocial Connections is currently a no-cost program\, other than event day expenses (example: $15 for bowling\, shoe rental\, and lunch costs). **We are actively searching for annual and monthly business sponsors to help with future costs – please contact us!\nSocial Connections is appropriate for tweens/teens (12-17 yo) and young adults (18-35 yo) with autism with low to moderate support needs. Individuals need to be able to communicate verbally\, or communicate well with an AAC device. Individuals should be able to participate on their own with minimal support. Parents or caregivers are to attend but should sit off from the group. Activity costs vary based on each month’s event\, but will be kept minimal. Each group is only open to 20 individuals at this time. If there is a need we will happily expand the group and hire additional professional staff. We will be sending out a full online survey to gather more information soon to those who register.\nThe Social Connections Group is being facilitated by Jennifer Groce. Jennifer is an intervention specialist at Potential Development. We plan to have an additional 1-2 professional support staff to assist. Our support staff includes: Jessica (teacher at Youngstown City Schools) and Joe or Julia\, BCBAs from the Rich Center for Autism.\nAlmost 8 years ago Social Connections was a program of the then Autism Society of Ohio\, Mahoning Valley. We were then ready to launch for April 2020 and then the pandemic hit. So we are excited to bring back this program to help teens and young adults meet and work on their social skills in a relaxed and fun way.

SUMMARY:Young Adult Career Explorations Week - 2024 Camp FRIEND Interest Form
DESCRIPTION:We are currently accepting Autistic young adults into our Career Explorations Young Adult Camp FRIEND Week. This camp will take place the week of August 5th-9th from 9am to 3pm. The Camp will be held at Vista AST’s Discovery Space at 265 W. Federal Street in Downtown Youngstown.  Individuals should be 18-25 years old and reside in Mahoning\, Trumbull\, or Columbiana Counties. Cost is a $25.00 registration fee.  This week of Camp FRIEND is generously funded by State Farm Insurance’s Neighborhood Assist Program to offset program and staffing costs for individuals. \nDue to the setup of this week with our partners at Vista AST\, there is an expected level of independence required. Individuals should be at a high school level academically to follow the activities and direction of the Vista AST staff. They should be able to communicate basic wants and needs throughout the day either verbally or through the use of an AAC device.   The individuals should also need minimal assistance behaviorally.  We will have two autism expert teachers as staff for the week so the ratio will be 9 individuals to 1 staff as we will be accepting 18 for this week of Camp. Camp will be led by 3 Vista AST interns leaving our hired staff available to assist with any hands-on support\, breaks\, visuals\, and regulation needs. \nPlease fill out our camper interest form to be considered for this program.  All forms will be reviewed by our Adult Camp Week Facilitator and she will contact families with any questions to make sure that this program is a good fit for the individual.  If there are no questions and individual is accepted they will be emailed an acceptance.  Payments will be accepted through Square by credit card.  If the individual is using county or other funds please coordinate with the funder for prompt payment.  Please email socialconnections@autismmv.org with any direct questions. \nThank you. \n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.
