SUMMARY:Young Adult Career Explorations Week - 2024 Camp FRIEND Interest Form
DESCRIPTION:We are currently accepting Autistic young adults into our Career Explorations Young Adult Camp FRIEND Week. This camp will take place the week of August 5th-9th from 9am to 3pm. The Camp will be held at Vista AST’s Discovery Space at 265 W. Federal Street in Downtown Youngstown.  Individuals should be 18-25 years old and reside in Mahoning\, Trumbull\, or Columbiana Counties. Cost is a $25.00 registration fee.  This week of Camp FRIEND is generously funded by State Farm Insurance’s Neighborhood Assist Program to offset program and staffing costs for individuals. \nDue to the setup of this week with our partners at Vista AST\, there is an expected level of independence required. Individuals should be at a high school level academically to follow the activities and direction of the Vista AST staff. They should be able to communicate basic wants and needs throughout the day either verbally or through the use of an AAC device.   The individuals should also need minimal assistance behaviorally.  We will have two autism expert teachers as staff for the week so the ratio will be 9 individuals to 1 staff as we will be accepting 18 for this week of Camp. Camp will be led by 3 Vista AST interns leaving our hired staff available to assist with any hands-on support\, breaks\, visuals\, and regulation needs. \nPlease fill out our camper interest form to be considered for this program.  All forms will be reviewed by our Adult Camp Week Facilitator and she will contact families with any questions to make sure that this program is a good fit for the individual.  If there are no questions and individual is accepted they will be emailed an acceptance.  Payments will be accepted through Square by credit card.  If the individual is using county or other funds please coordinate with the funder for prompt payment.  Please email socialconnections@autismmv.org with any direct questions. \nThank you. \n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.

Come together with others to share interests\, overcome challenges and form friendships in a supportive environment.\nMost event times are but are subject to change as needed.\n— Tween/Teen Group (ages 12-17 yo) – 11am-12:30pm\n— Young Adult Group (ages 18+) – 1-2:30pm\n*If you are already enrolled in Social Connections check your email for current registration form or email Jennifer at: socialconnections@autismmv.org\nThis monthly social connections group will be facilitated by professionals to empower our Autistic community to develop confidence and ease in social situations. Our mission is to create lasting friendships within and beyond our group. To achieve this important goal\, we are searching for individuals who can participate regularly. Please only register if you plan on attending consistently in order to promote meaningful relationships.\nSocial Connections is currently a no-cost program\, other than event day expenses (example: $15 for bowling\, shoe rental\, and lunch costs). **We are actively searching for annual and monthly business sponsors to help with future costs – please contact us!\nSocial Connections is appropriate for tweens/teens (12-17 yo) and young adults (18-35 yo) with autism with low to moderate support needs. Individuals need to be able to communicate verbally\, or communicate well with an AAC device. Individuals should be able to participate on their own with minimal support. Parents or caregivers are to attend but should sit off from the group. Activity costs vary based on each month’s event\, but will be kept minimal. Each group is only open to 20 individuals at this time. If there is a need we will happily expand the group and hire additional professional staff. We will be sending out a full online survey to gather more information soon to those who register.\nThe Social Connections Group is being facilitated by Jennifer Groce. Jennifer is an intervention specialist at Potential Development. We plan to have an additional 1-2 professional support staff to assist. Our support staff includes: Jessica (teacher at Youngstown City Schools) and Joe or Julia\, BCBAs from the Rich Center for Autism.\nAlmost 8 years ago Social Connections was a program of the then Autism Society of Ohio\, Mahoning Valley. We were then ready to launch for April 2020 and then the pandemic hit. So we are excited to bring back this program to help teens and young adults meet and work on their social skills in a relaxed and fun way.

SUMMARY:2024 Camp FRIEND Interest Form
DESCRIPTION:Please fill out our 2024 Camp FRIEND interest form. Our Camp Director will then review the applications and then we will send acceptance letters through email to those who are accepted. Our Camp Director may contact you with questions regarding your child’s needs.  Please return the phone call or text promptly. If accepted the parent will need to fill out a full camper registration form with additional information needed. \nCamp FRIEND is for individuals with an autism spectrum diagnosis living in Mahoning\, Trumbull\, or Columbiana counties only. It is a social and recreational camp\, not academic or therapeutic. Camp FRIEND serves individuals ages 5 through 19 years old. The dates for 2024 are the week of June 24-28 and the week of July 15-19.  Drop off times are 8:30-9am and pick up times are 2:30-3pm. Families can apply for one week or both weeks.  Cost per week is $99 (FSS funds and other county DD funds can be used). Camp FRIEND will be held at the Jewish Community Center\, Youngstown. Individuals can attend with their RBT if they need 1:1 support. \nWe also will be accepting a few neurotypical peers per week. Neurotypical peers are often kind and caring siblings of those attending camp but can be other children as well. Please only register if you plan on attending consistently in order to promote meaningful relationships.\nSocial Connections is currently a no-cost program\, other than event day expenses (example: $15 for bowling\, shoe rental\, and lunch costs). **We are actively searching for annual and monthly business sponsors to help with future costs – please contact us!\nSocial Connections is appropriate for tweens/teens (12-17 yo) and young adults (18-35 yo) with autism with low to moderate support needs. Individuals need to be able to communicate verbally\, or communicate well with an AAC device. Individuals should be able to participate on their own with minimal support. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, March 17th from 9-11am for our annual Special Bunny event at Eastwood Mall.\nWe will be set up just past the food court.\nLots of holiday crafts and games too! Open to individuals with autism and their siblings.  A photo with the Easter Bunny can be taken just of the child (children) or with parent(s) too. 1 photo per family unless there is no wait\, to get in all of the families.  Regular mall photo costs are to be paid by the parent.
