Open Positions
Position Title: Bookkeeper
Reports To: Executive Director / Treasurer
Hours: 16 hours per month (flexible weekly)
Location: On-site
Position Summary
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the financial operations of the nonprofit organization. This position ensures timely recording of transactions, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the organization’s financial records and accounting system.
- Record/reconcile accounts payable (approx 25-50 transactions per month).
- Record/reconcile deposits and other financial transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial accounts monthly.
- Process invoices, payments, and reimbursements as needed.
- Review & verify payroll reports provided by a third party payroll provider.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for management and the Board of Directors.
- Track grants, donations, and restricted funds as required.
- Assist with annual budget and updates as needed.
- Support in audit preparation for internal/external audits as needed.
- Maintain financial documentation and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist with preparation of information needed for Form 990 tax filing.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required; nonprofit experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Quickbooks accounting software.
Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial reporting. - Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations.
- Knowledge of grant tracking and fund accounting.
- Familiarity with payroll reports and nonprofit compliance requirements.
Compensation
- Hourly rate: Salary is commensurate with experience.
